The library catalogue is a publicly accessible Internet application, and therefore no authorization is needed to use it. However, electronic publications that are accessible via this system are available only to readers registered with the Teiresias Centre library. Follow this link (in Czech) to read frequently asked questions about how the library works.
1. The standard Aleph catalogue system is accessible at www.aleph.muni.cz. The Tereisias Centre's library catalogue is part of Masaryk University's comprehensive catalogue. The Aleph library system is used for cataloguing. The Centre's catalogue currently holds about 4,000 titles, predominately in electronic or tactile form.
2. The Library Gateway for the Visually Impaired is accessible at seth.ics.muni.cz/usr/portal/?lang=en&. The interface has been adapted to the needs of visually impaired users, and allows them to simply confirm the availability of publications in the catalogues of participating libraries. If electronic sources are available the user can access the source directly upon being authorized. Detailed information and technical information is available here.
The Tinweb user interface, which had been used to access the library catalogue, is no longer in service. The address www.teiresias.muni.cz/katalog is now forwarded to the Library Gateway for the Visually Impaired (see point 2).
Besides usual catalogue data (e.g. title, author, publisher, year, place, and edition), for electronic, tactile, and hybrid publications there is information about the original document on the basis of which these publications were created. For electronic titles, technical information is also presented (e.g. format, coding, the manner in which graphical appendices have been adapted, etc.), as well as a hypertext link to the actual publication (if the link is missing, or if "in preparation" is displayed, this means that the title has yet to be fully adapted for use by visually impaired readers, and is thus available only upon written request).
Other digital resources
For those interested in other digital or tactile resources we provide an overview (in Czech) of academic and non-academic institutions offering similar services. The conditions under which each database is accessible can differ slightly based on administrator; details are always available on the homepages of each institution.
The Teiresias Centre's efforts are not only focused on centralizing information about the catalogues of various institutions (see the Library Gateway), but also on creating a shared, protected database of readers for direct partner organizations, which will allow the users of one library to have access to the libraries of the other organizations. Currently, our readers can access the digital libraries of Johannes Kepler University Linz (Digitales Dokumentenarchiv (ELO) der Johannes-Kepler-Universität Linz – administered by the Institut Integriert studieren), and others (such as the electronic library of the Tereza Centre of Czech Technical University, etc.) will gradually follow.
