Czech Union of the Deaf

The Czech Union of the Deaf has, starting from September 2008, expanded the range of services offered, thanks to the grants awarded by the Vodafone Group Foundation, and aside from the already
established service of interpreting into sign language it currently provides simultaneous transcription of spoken language. This provides those hearing-impaired people who do not use sign language and whose mother tongue is Czech with the right to choose a preferred system of communication.

As posited by the project, the Czech Union of the Deaf in cooperation with MU and CTU will establish an operator facility with control terminals in Prague (CUH-I) and Brno (MU) that will aim to provide real-time visualisation and speech-to-text reporting of lectures and seminars at selected universities. It will participate in creating the methodology of reporting and visualisation, the development and practical use of applications for simultaneous online transcription and the integration of the ZAVpis, eScribe and Polygraf systems. At the selected universities it will provide visualisation and speech-to-text reporting, or cooperate with the respective support centres for students with special needs on the realization of visualisation and speech-to-text reporting andif needed will lend the technology required to those interested in providing such services.
