Project outputs

1. Adapted learning styles survey and learning strategies questionnaires

The main purpose of this output was to encourage learners to think strategically about their learning processes and expand their strategies repertoires.

The aim was:

  • to evaluate existing surveys on learning styles and adapt them to meet the needs of DHH learners
  • to create easy-to-use yet efficient learning strategies questionnaires, enabling DHH learners to benefit fully from these tools
  • to offer adaptable lesson plans on using the created results

The results are:

  1. The tool called “Explore the Way You Learn: An Accessible Reflective Tool (Not Only) for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Learners", based on the Learning Style Inventory by Cohen, Oxford, and Chi (2001). It features illustrations created by a young Polish hard-of-hearing artist, Maria Skoczyńska.
  2. Four short learning tests that help learners discover how they approach learning vocabulary, practicing speaking, writing, and reading in foreign languages, and suggest new strategies they could try.
  3. Two lesson plans on using these results in classroom are part of Project Result 3.
Access the results.

2. Learning styles and strategies resource pack

To explore and understand the preferred learning styles of DHH learners, a quantitative study was conducted through an online survey based on the adapted questionnaires (Output 1). The study involved a small-scale survey with DHH learners aged 1835.

3. Project resource pack

The resource pack offers practical, adaptable tips and recommendations for immediate use in the classroom, helping teachers navigate the project outcomes and apply them to their teaching and learning practices.

The resource pack includes:

  • A lesson plan with teaching tips for using the reflective tool.
  • A lesson plan for using the strategy questionnaires, designed for both DHH learners and mainstream students (aged 15 and above).
  • Three case studies by Deaf and hearing teachers on teaching foreign languages to DHH learners.

Access the lesson plans and mini questionnaires. Download case study 1, case study 2, case study 3.

4. Learners' experience bank

The Best Practice bank called The "Learners' Experience Bank" is a collection of video-based tips and strategies shared by successful DHH learners to support foreign language (FL) learning.

The bank includes:

  • Four video interviews featuring successful DHH learners sharing their FL learning journeys, tips, and strategies.
  • Four culturally relevant activity plans for teachers to facilitate discussions and exercises based on the videos.

5. Additional outputs

  1. Additional mobility opportunity – Organized under the Erasmus+ Key Action 1 program, the 2022 summer school welcomed additional participants through collaboration with European Union of the Deaf Youth (EUDY) and other partners. Called “Telč 22 – Summer School for DHH Youth Workers”, this initiative fostered intercultural exchange and broader outreach. See more details: Telč 22.
  2. Academic publication – A forthcoming academic book on foreign language learning styles and strategies for learners with special needs.
  3. Linguistic innovation – A new verb, "to langskill," capturing the spirit of the project, was coined by the project partnership. See the dictionary entre at Dictio: Langskill Entry.
  4. Sign language linguistic categories – Comprehensive descriptions of Czech Sign Language categories were developed, focusing on verbs, grammatical agreement, and oral components. These descriptions, translated into Czech Sign Language, include illustrative examples and have been integrated into the Dictio platform: Sign Language Categories.
